MCI to Launch New Syllabus for MBBS Course from Upcoming Session
MCI will launch the new syllabus for MBBS course from the upcoming academic session. The new MBBS syllabus will be implemented from the academic session 2019-20.
Medical education in India is going through a major revamp with the introduction of the new syllabus for MBBS course from the upcoming academic session, i.e., 2019-20. MCI will launch the new MBBS syllabus next month. The syllabus of the MBBS course was last updated/ revised 21 years ago.
The new syllabus will focus more on hands-on and skill-based training. The final draft of the new MBBS syllabus is ready and it is in the process of proofreading. The revamped MBBS syllabus aims to improve the pedagogy in the classroom making it more learner-centric.

According to sources, the information on new diseases has been included in the new syllabus. The irrelevant chapters that are not necessary for general practice have been removed from the curriculum.
The Medical Council of India (MCI) has already initiated the training process for teachers on the new MBBS syllabus. Over the last six months, the medical council trained around 40,000 teachers identified by the respective medical education departments of medical colleges. It will be the responsibility of these teachers to train their colleagues in the new syllabus.

A teacher who undertook training on new MBBS syllabus revealed that the new topics added in the curriculum are relevant in the current scenario. The new syllabus will increase the knowledge and skills of students to a large extent.
