Several Medical Colleges of Patna have been running six diploma courses without any recognition from the Medical Council of India (MCI). The unrecognized courses have been run in the state since past 25 years in several medical colleges of Patna, including Patna Medical College.
Last year hearing a petition, the Patna High court had asked the colleges to stop taking admissions or entrance exams for the admission to these diploma courses in the month of November 2015. The courses were likely to be started again after the recognition of MCI. Another written petition has brought this to the notice of the court that no action has been taken till now, even after the gap of 4 months, to seek MCI approval for the six diploma courses run in the medical colleges. An ‘Action taken report’ has been asked by the high court from the health department of the state on the same.
