The Medical Council of India (MCI) has rejected the proposal of King George Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow to expand its postgraduate medical section. Rejecting the proposals by the nodal watch body of the medical education, MCI have cited the following shortcomings like:

  • No research publications in several departments of KGMU
  • Negligible books in the library

The KGMU officials said they are trying to address these shortcomings MCI had pointed out. After going through the compliance report, MCI will conduct a fresh inspection and submit the final report to the central government along with its recommendations. KGMU wanted to increase its seats in several PG departments and has sought the MCI approval. These departments are - Radiodiagnosis, Radiotherapy, Respiratory Medicine, Ophthalmology, Microbiology, Community Medicine, Pathology, Paediatrics, Physiology, Anatomy, Pharmacology, Anesthesia, General Medicine etc.
