MCI Team to Visit DMC on 3rd Sept

<p>A three-member team of Medical Council of India (MCI) will visit Darbhanga Medical College (DMC) on September 3 to probe the ragging incident that recently took place at the college hostel.

Earlier MCI, before deciding to send its team for investigation, had asked some clarification from the DMC about its anti-ragging committee and its members' names, lodging of FIR against the truant medicos and the steps taken by the college to prevent such incidents on its campus.

The college authorities had informed the MCI that 19 second year medicos had been suspended. However, it later came to light that of the 19 students, 16 were suspended on the ground of shortage of attendance and obtaining fewer marks in internal assessments.

The ragging incident had allegedly took place at East hostel of the college on August 6.

The MCI had earlier expressed its dissatisfaction over the action taken report (ATR) submitted by the college.

Team of the MCI has been necessitated following the failure of the college administration to identify the culprits. The college also failed in dealing with the case as per MCI guidelines, informed chairman of the MCI anti-ragging cell to the principal of the college, Dr R K Sinha.

It is also learnt that MCI team would grill all the students, HoDs, members of the anti-ragging committee of the college, wardens of the hostels and officials of the college administration.

While Principal of the college Dr Sinha has asked all the students, their guardians and faculty members of the college to remain present on 3rd September.
