A MCI team visits Nalanda Medical College, seeks reforms

A team of Medical Council of India (MCI ) visited Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) recently and met the students probing about the facilities provided, apart from inspecting the facilities at the hospital.

The three-member team of MCI looked into the provisions of the required equipment in the hospital. The medical council of India team visiting NMCH Patna, on 23rd of January, 2016 in order to approval the 100 seats of MBBS held by Nalanda Medical College, Patna.

The MBBS seats in Nalanda Medical College were increased from 50 to 100 in the year 2010, but a negative report would mean reduction of the seats to 50 again. It is noteworthy that the Medical Council of India had notified the state government of its inefficiency to meet the standards of infrastructure facilities in most of the state funded medical colleges. The faculty shortage of the colleges run by the state government ranged from 22-40 % while the maximum faculty shortage allowed by the MCI falls in the range of 10-15%.

The MCI team also asked the explanation for the absence of basic facilities in the hospital such as CT Scan facility, MRI facility and one of the most crucial ventilator in the ICU. Monitoring the infrastructural facilities such as classrooms, lecture theatre, hostels and auditorium, two members of the MCI team Dr. M.P Parchand and Dr. Arunav Sen Gupta, asked the college administration of NMCH to separate the auditorium and the lecture theatre.
