<p>MCM DAV College for Women in Chandigarh has become the only college in northern India and one of the only five selected colleges throughout India to have received the ‘Star Status’ by the Star College Scheme of Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
The Star College Scheme was initiated in 2008 by DBT to nurture excellence in undergraduate science education for holistic development of colleges.
Thus, the government will also be providing the college with one- time non-recurring grant of Rs 10 lakh and a recurring grant of Rs 3 lakh per year for a period of three years for all science departments currently benefited under the scheme.
“The college has been benefiting under the Star College Scheme continually since 2012 and the science education has made giant progressive leaps owing to the optimal utilisation of funds and grants allotted to the college under this scheme,” said a notification of received by the college.
So far, 96 colleges have been supported throughout the country under this scheme. The aim of the scheme is on improving knowledge and skills of teachers, providing access to specialised infrastructure and consumables, to improve hands-on training and industrial exposure as well as individual research projects for udergraduate students.
