Despite the decrease of engineering seats in Karnataka this year, many seats in Engineering courses in Karnataka are lying vacant. Auto and manufacturing slowdown in the country is now reflecting in the engineering admissions in Karanataka. This year, as per thy Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA), 27,022 seats in the state are vacant out of 66000 seats/ 2019 has recorded the highest number of vacant seats in the state. The statistics released by KEA shows that in 2018, 20,000 seats were vacant which touches 22,000 in 2018. This year, the number of vacant seats record a whooping hight of 27,022.

According to department based vacant seat statistics, it has been revealed that a total of 8,500 seats are lying vacant in 2019 for Mechanical Engineering Courses. Computer Science Branch has 5,000 vacant seats and 5,500 vacant seats are reported from the Civil Engineering course. The remaining number of vacant seats are mainly reported from Electronics, Electrical and Communication Engineering courses.

KEA has informed that the admissions in AYUSH courses in Karnataka are still running and students who are not getting their chances in AYUSH are opting for engineering. A senior KEA official said that due to this, the mechanical engineering course is suffering the most.

According to Prof. HN Ramesh who is the Principal of University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) the engineering trends are not going down. The engineering allotment is done first and the medical or AYUSH course. Due to this reason, the potential student is confused who really wants to pursue engineering. To avoid this, medical and AYUSH seat allotments should be done first and then engineering. This will provide students with a clear picture and students will get seats in their choice of colleges.
