On August 4, parents of UG medical aspirants along with their wards are planning to conduct a rally against reservations across Maharashtra as the reservation is going beyond the limit set by Supreme Court. The medical candidates said that the reservation percentage affects the candidates who are applying for the general category seats.

Medical candidates along with their parents from places like Nashik, Amravati, Nagpur, Pune, Aurangabad, etc will be joining the rally. The High Court of Bombay has not taken a stand on the inclusion of more quotas.

Dhanashree Waghmode, a medical aspirant said that the aim of this rally is to fight for the rights of the students as the meritorious students are falling behind because of the rise of quotas i.e. the caste certificates are starting to take the front seat than the qualification certificates.

After the announcement of the Union Minister about increasing the number of seats in government medical colleges, this year more 970 new seats were allotted in 20 government medical colleges. The board of governors of the medical council of India proposed to increase the number of EWS seats under MBBS course.

An aspirant applying for the medical courses said that there is no increase in the number of seats for the general candidates even after the increase of the total number of seats in the government medical colleges. The Supreme Court law is that the reservations cannot go beyond 50% but almost 90% of seats are reserved for the reserved category.

The first list for Maharashtra UG dental and medical courses was released on 12 July by the Common Entrance Test cell of Maharashtra.

Sudha Shenoy, a parent of a medical candidate said that as all the seats are not yet filled they still have a chance to change the reservation percentage. This rally is to notify the authority of the problems so that they notice it before the list of all the seats is released.
