Medical College Hires Fake Teachers for MCI Inspection

An inspection visit by the Medical Council of India to a medical college in Haldia, Kolkata lead to the rise of the issue of ghost faculties yet again. On the day of the inspection, the college was found filled with teaching faculties.

Surprisingly, after the inspection was over, most of the teachers left the college to go back to the places from where they were hired.

On inspection, it was found out that the faculty shown to the Medical Council during the time of inspection were not actual college faculties but were instead hired by the college on rent from private pathology labs in Kolkata. The people hired as faculty by the institute were actually doctors in different private pathological laboratories.

Further inspection in the matter lead to the identification of two such faculties who claimed that they were working at two private laboratories in Salt Lake and Duttapukur, Kolkata.

The matter was soon clear when officials from the college agreed that the college authorities hire doctors on rent and show them as faculty during MCI visits. In return, these doctors are paid about Rs 40,000- 50,000 per day for being present in the college on the inspection days every year.

Regarding the same, a senior member belonging to the college commented that they are aware of some of the mistakes prevailing in the system and the college will soon be taking steps to rectify these mistakes.

Back in the year 2011, the college had faced many problems for not following the guidelines issued by the MCI. Earlier, the college had received a letter from the MCI after it was found running the medical and dental college from the same building.
