Medical College Likely to be Established in Jawhar, Maharashtra
Maharashtra Medical Education Minister said that state government will explore the possibility of establishing a medical college in tribal- dominated backward Jawhar taluka of Palghar.
Girish Mahajan, Maharashtra Medical Education Minister said that the state government will explore the possibility of establishing a medical college in tribal- dominated backward Jawhar taluka of Palghar.
The minister made this announcement during his visit to Jawhar in the neighboring district to know the condition of the prevailing situation there following the large-scale death of children and other issues that affected the area. The report came as per the press release issued by an NGO named Shramajivi Sanghatana.

Founder of the NGO Vivek Pandit, in his meeting with the minister, highlighted the malnutrition and high mortality rate of the children in the region. He held a discussion on the issues and also submitted a memorandum citing possible solutions.
Pandit in the meeting reminded the minister that the decision to upgrade the sub-hospital at Jawhar- Patanghsha Kutir Hospital, to 200 bedded hospital with all the amenities had been taken four years back. But no step has been taken in this regard. If the present hospital is upgraded into a medical college with 300 beds, it would solve the medical problems of the area.

To get medical facilities people of the area have to go to far off areas while traveling long distances. The minister on his part assured that he would look into the issues and take all possible measures to resolve it. He also added that he would discuss the matter with the officials and give directions to the department concerned.
Besides that, the minister also discussed several other issues like availability of grains at the fair price shops.
