Medical Scandal: SRM Education Group’s Chief Pachamuthu Arrested

T R Pachamuthu, the founder chairman of SRM Group of educational institutions, was arrested in Chennai over involvement in alleged crores of rupees scandal in medical admissions, police said.
While giving the information, a top police official said that Central Crime Branch arrested Pachamuthu. His India Jananayaga Katchi (IJK) is an ally of NDA at the Centre. Pachamuthu has been booked for cheating under IPC sections including 420 said the same official.

The Chancellor of the SRM University was arrested in Chennai near the headquarter of his group of the companies following more than 100 complaints from parents related to transactions for getting admissions to medical courses in SRM. The transaction money would amount to several crores of rupees.
The parents of the students alleged they were duped after being promised seats in medical colleges run by the SRM Group. A case was filed by police. The film producer Madhan acted as an agent in the scam. He collected huge sums of money from parents. He is the key accused in the scam and is missing since last May.

But the Vice Chancellor had strongly denied any link whatsoever with Madhan. He claimed that all admissions were done in a clear and transparent way. It was on May 27 Madhan mysteriously disappeared and his family members wanted the Chancellor to be inquired over the issue. Thereafter, the matter went to Madras High Court.
On the basis of the complaints, police named Madhan close to Pachamuthu and his associates in the FIR.
