Medical Sciences University to Come Up in Himachal Pradesh
Kaul Singh Thakur, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, revealed that all the colleges which offer medical courses across the state would be affiliated to the proposed university.
With an objective to regulate medical education in the state, the government of Himachal Pradesh is planning to set up a Medical Sciences University. Three new medical institutes are also being set up in the state. Hence, to ensure regulation and promotion of medical standards will be also become necessary to be taken up.
Kaul Singh Thakur, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, revealed that all the colleges which offer medical courses across the state would be affiliated to the proposed university. Apart from medical courses, the colleges which offer courses in Ayurveda will also be affiliated to the varsity.

Currently, there are four dental and medical colleges in the state which come under government sector while there is only one private medical college. A total number of 33 colleges offer GNS courses and 21 colleges are offer nursing courses. There are only two colleges which are offering courses in Ayurveda, at present. The government has plans to establish three more medical colleges in the state.

Thakur also mentioned that discussions were held between the Health and Ayurvedic departments regarding the establishment of Health Sciences University. A draft bill will be prepared which will require the approval of the Cabinet. The proposal will also be introduced in the State Assembly during the budget session.
The government of Himachal Pradesh is also taking extensive measures for the development of education. The state has a positive sex ratio, and girl child education is being given top priority.
