NEET PG 2022 will be conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) on May 21, 2022. The Medical Students Association has moved the Supreme Court this time in order to demand postponement of the NEET PG 2022 on grounds of it clashing with the NEET 2021 Counselling Dates

The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) had earlier written to the Health Minister, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Shri Mansukh Mandaviya to postpone the NEET PG 2022 exam. Several other prominent ministers like Member of Parliament (MP) Hibi Eden have also written to the Union Health Ministry and even President Ram Nath Kovind that the NEET PG Exam be postponed in order to conduct a fair and efficient examination that would be uniform for all aspiring candidates.

Last month, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition which called for the extension of the internship deadline from July 31, 2022, in order to provide a chance to candidates who would be unable to complete their mandatory internship by that time.

Why is the AIMSA calling for the postponement of NEET PG 2022?

The reasons that the Association has cited for the deferment of the exam date are the following:

  • The NEET PG 2021 Counselling has been running into one trouble after another and is scheduled to be completed by May 3, 2022. However, with the Supreme Court rulings, it is indeed a matter of clear concern as to whether the completion will be fruitful within time. Moreover, there is an air of uncertainty all around regarding the counselling process.
  • The time span between the completion of the mop-up counselling round for NEET PG 2021 and the exam date for NEET PG 2022 is too short for repeat candidates to prepare for the exam. This will create trying circumstances for the mid-ranker students who hope for better seats by appearing for NEET PG 2022.
  • With the cancellation of the last mop-up round due to the faulty conduction by the MCC, several students lost seats. There were also several who were left with no seats and yet had not registered for NEET PG 2022. Fitting them into such a tight schedule is almost impossible.
  • Last but not least, the 5000 interns who had not been able to complete their mandatory 12-month long rotatory internship due to Covid-19 ward duties at the call of the Honourable Prime Minister will not be able to appear for the exam this year which falls under injustice.

AIMSA hopes that the Supreme Court will uphold their petition and postpone NEET PG 2022.
