Medical Students Take Postgraduate Seats Without Completing Their Internships
According to a report, some of the medical students have been taking the easy way out by not turning up for the internship programmes and have been receiving seats in the postgraduate courses without having completed their internships.
In a report that has come out in Hyderabad, some medical students have received seats in the postgraduate courses, without being employed in an internship programme, which is mandatory in the MBBS course. This news is part of many other malpractices that have risen in the medical colleges of the state, where they have have been blamed for not providing classes on anatomy to the students which are needed by the student in order to become capable doctors.
In the latest case, the students who have been interning in a department had protested about to the superintendent of the hospital they were interning at about the issue that the students who were interning at the hospital were given double the work since there were students who did not appear for the internships, a source stated. Dr P S Vijeyendra who is the chairman of the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJDA) while condemning the act, that all those who have been part of the offence should be punished the report stated.

The Medical colleges in the state have also seen some heat since they have been awarding the students with degrees in medicine without the students completing the internship programme. The students weren’t awarded the medical degrees but were also given seats in the postgraduate courses as well. The students are required to go through the internship programme as that helps them to gain the needed practical experience that is required to when they become doctors in the real world.

Sources have also stated that students have a habit of paying off the administrators of two hospitals in Hyderabad in the last year of the entire MBBS programme. Sources say they do so to get away from doing any clinical rotations and to get the official papers signed at the end of the internship period. Sources have also stated that many students get their internships transferred to both the hospitals in order to miss out on work and get their internship certificate.
