5-year Strategy Revealed by University of Melbourne for Stronger Relations With India

The University of Melbourne has disclosed that the will be taking steps to enhance their relationship with India in different areas such as education, health, law, as well as cultural arts.

The “Engaging with India 2020-2024” strategy of the University of Melbourne has been put in place so as to facilitate further collaborations in areas of mutual interests. They aim to “expand the quality” as well as the “impact of research” along with produce graduates who are capable of interacting with Indian graduates with similar or equal capabilities as well as experience. The objective is to provide a platform to conduct discourse and study in the areas of government, academics, civic, business as well as open up doors to Indian partners to use their expertise in Australia.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne, Duncan Maskell announced that they will be taking the necessary steps to ensure a strong relationship between the two countries. He added that they aim to strengthen the ties that they have made with their Indian partners in the areas of “shared social and scientific global challenges”. He stated that the common issues that are being faced by both countries such as Health and Food Security, Water Management as well as Climate Change will be focused on.

Under the new strategy, the plan is to facilitate academicians to continue their work in different fields in partnership with the different partners in India of the University. They aim to work on the research partnerships, produce grants along with co-authoring different publications as well as undertaking various research projects.

Among the Indian states that have been targeted by the University to execute their engagement institutes in Delhi, Karnataka and Maharashtra will be included. Regional states of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu have also been included.

These steps that have been taken, directly affect and add to the efforts that have been made by the Australian Government to strengthen the ties between India and Australia. Last year, the Government of Australia had taken an ambitious step towards enhancing the relationship between the countries.
