MHRD Allocates Rs.5 Crore to UGC for Anti Ragging Campaigns
The funds have been granted to conduct anti-ragging campaigns in the higher education institutions of the country.
A sum of Rs.5 crore has been allocated to University Grants Commission by Ministry of Human Resource and Development. The funds have been granted to conduct anti-ragging campaigns in the higher education institutions of the country.
The ministry mentioned that the UGC has spent Rs. 4.78 crore for telecasting adds related to anti-ragging in Doordarshan and filmmaking by NFDC. The UGC also spent the money to broadcast about anti-ragging in FM and All India Radio (AIR). The UGC has also conducted and organized various competitions related to anti-ragging. Competitions like poster presentations, essay writing, logo, and icon designing.
MHRD also mentioned that around 390 cases of ragging have been registered last year. The higher number of cases were registered in Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh. The UGC has sent letters to the educational secretaries of various states regarding this. The definition of ragging had also been expanded.
The ministry has also mentioned that the cost under mid-day meal scheme has risen to seven percent. The revised cost per child for mid-day meals is Rs.6.18. It came into effect from 1-July-2016. Previously, the cost of mid-day meal per child was Rs.4.13.
