HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar has appealed to the members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha to give their suggestions on the proposed policy of education in India. In his view, there is a need for a good functional policy in order to take the country forward in a comprehensive way. The last education policy was drafted in the year 1986 and implemented in the year 1992.

He also proposed that the deadline to receive suggestions may be extended to 15th August 2016 in order to ensure that the mission to change the educational policies is regarded as nothing less than a national mission.

During the question hour in the parliament session, he urged all the Members of Parliaments (MPs) to send in their suggestions on the draft policy after he shares it with them. The responses will help them to take further steps to formally apply the same.

While in session, Javadekar was also asked whether or not the new policy calls for morning prayers to which he responded saying that there was no such proposal, hence denying the speculation.

Secondly, he also cleared the air about whether the new policy will affect the powers of individual states by claiming that the policy will enhance partnership at a macro level to improve the quality of education in our country.

Thirdly, he stated that if an educational institute functions well within the rules, they need not worry at all.

On the other hand, he did not speak much on the query on saffronisation of education.

He believes that education is an issue that is of prime concern to everyone and hence should be made a national mission following which he is seeking suggestions on the same. Several rounds of discussions while formulating the policy will help draft one that is comprehensive and satisfying in all respects.
