MHRD to Announce NIRF Ranking 2018 for Indian Universities on April 3

Introduced by HRD Ministry, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was implemented in 2016 to rank Indian Universities on different parameters. According to the updates on the official website of NIRF, rankings for Indian Universities and Institutes for the year 2018 will be declared on April 03, 2018.

Data regarding the higher education institutes in India has been collected by MHRD through Data Capturing System (DCS). T

In 2017, the institutes were ranked as per their categories. There are four categories, i.e. University, Management institutes, Engineering institutes and Pharmacy institutes. The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore was given the first position in the university category.

Five parameters are considered for ranking the institutes. Each parameter is rated according to the score out of 100. The total score awarded to an institute is normalized to 100. Different weightage is given to each parameter.

Parameters used in NIRF Ranking:

  1. Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR): This parameter is judged on the basis of aspects like faculty-student ratio, student strength, funding and utility of financial resources. It carries a weightage of 0.30.
  2. Research and Professional Practice (RPP): For RPP, research papers, quality of publication and journals published by an institute are taken into consideration, quality of publication etc. It carries a weightage of 0.30.
  3. Graduation Outcome (GO): Placements, packages, ratio of students who secured a seat in top universities and the median salary is considered to evaluate GO. It is given 0.20 weightage.
  4. Outreach and Inclusivity (OI): For this parameter, the diversity of an institute in terms of gender, states, etc. is considered. OI has a weightage of 0.10.
  5. Perception: Common public opinion is also considered for evaluation f institutes. This field is given a weightage of 0.10.
