MHRD Launches Year-Long Essay Writing Competition for College Students
The MHRD has launched a one-year-long Essay Writing Competition for students of Higher Education Institutions in India. A monthly competition will be held each month and the competition will be held online.
To mark the 70th year of adoption of the Indian Constitution, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has launched a very innovative initiative to mark the historic day of adopting the world’s longest constitution for the largest democracy!
The MHRD has decided to mark the platinum jubilee of the historic incident by launching a Pan-India inter-university essay writing competition. Students of different colleges and universities can volunteer in the competition by taking apart and submit their essays on the various aura of topics. The essay competition is announced on 26th November 2019 which also flagged off the first instalment of the essay writing competition.
The Minister of HRD, Mr Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ also inaugurated a web-portal named ‘Kartavya’ on the day of 26th November to mark the constitution day. The aim of the portal is to hold the essay competition and other interactive competitions like quizzes, poster making, debates etc. To increase the awareness about ‘Nagrik Kartavya Paalan Abhiyan,’ the topic for essays every month will be on the primary duty of Indian citizens as cited in the constitution.
The new essay topics will be announced on the 26th of each month. Students will have to register by the 10th of the next month for the competition. The students will be allotted an exam centre on the 16th of each month for appearing in the essay writing competition on 26th of each month.

The final venue of the competition will be held on 26th November 2020. Students who are studying in any of India’s Higher Education Institutions are eligible to apply for the essay writing competition. The essays should be written in English and Hindi. The duration will be 2 hours and the mode of essay writing will be online. No pen and paper are required for the examination.
There will be four prizes worth Rs. 15,000, 12,000, 10,000 and 7500 for the top place holders of the competition. The copy checking will be blind and will be done by the experienced people of the field.
