MHT CET 2023 to have 50% Weightage to Class 12 Marks
MHT CET 2023: As per the new policy for admissions through MHT CET, 50% weightage will be given to class 12th board marks while the rest 50% will be given to the actual CET score. Read below for more information.
MHT CET 2023: From the next academic year 2023-24, the Directorate of Technical Education Maharashtra will give a 50-50% weightage to the 12th board score and MHT CET score. This decision comes after a meeting was held by the state ministers, including the education minister of Maharashtra, Shri Uday Samant, and the finance minister, Ajit Pawar.
Although this decision is approved in principle by the DTE Maharashtra, the directorate is also yet to declare if the Class 12th scores will only be considered for PCMB subjects or the overall percentage of the student. If the aggregate score is considered, it remains unclear as to how a balance would be brought for the students of boards other than Maharashtra Board as the number of subjects at the 10+2 level differ for many boards across the country.
Apart from this, the minimum cutoff marks for the CET may also be scrapped. While the DTE plans to streamline these changes from 2023-24, reports of the possibility of MHT CET being held in multiple phases like JEE Main are also surfacing. Currently, it cannot be said if it would happen but the state has been pausing on it as it would help improve the scores of many students without wasting their one year.

Regarding the 50-50 weightage change, Shri Uday Samant said, “It has come to observance that the students do not attend Class 12th lectures as their focus remains heavily on the entrance test. Today, even the candidates achieving one mark in MHT CET are joining engineering programmes. Therefore, we are revamping the entire admission process for the next academic year and a detailed policy regarding the same will be published soon.”
Earlier to this, a similar bill was filed in 2004 which was struck down by the Bombay High Court. In contrast to this decision, the former DTE Director, Shri N B Pasalkar, said, “Without the weightage on Class 12th marks, students don’t attend lectures or pay attention. If it is to be altered, the state needs to give weightage to the 12th board marks.”
However, the CET weightage as well as the admission process for the current academic year 2022-23 remains the same. MHT CET 2022 will be held from August 5 to 11 for the PCM stream and from August 12 to 20 for the PCB stream.
