Minority Institutions Playing a Vital Role in Imparting Good Education & Culture: Mamata Banerjee

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee indicated that minority institutions across the state have been playing a vital role in imparting good education and culture. She pointed that few minority institutes like Ramakrishna Mission and Christian missioners are not only imparting good education but also moral values. She made this statement during the inaugural session of St. Xavier’s University in New Town.
She further pointed that education and culture are meant for human beings to walk in a right path but not for clashes. She praised the Jesuit fraternity for setting up the university and assured continuous support cooperation from the state government. The Government of West Bengal allocated 17 acres of land to the varsity, she added.

She assured that the state government would support the varsity in all aspects and hoped that the varsity will compete with global institutes like Harvard and Oxford in the next few years.
CEO and Chairman of Arceol Mittal, Mr. L.N Mittal and alumnus of St. Xavier’s College, attended the inaugural session.

Earlier, CM of West Bengal also wrote to HRD minister Prakash Javadekar expressing her concern about the discontinuation of non-NET fellowships for Ph.D. and M.Phil students. She considered the problems of students and requested the HRD Ministry to bring back the non-NET fellowships. In June 2017, the CM also interacted with the heads of various private educational institutes over the fee hike. She assured the students that the state government is committed to improving standards in the education.
