The non-clinical PG courses offered by the MKCG medical college and hospital in Berhampur, Odisha are not preferred by the medical students.
Young doctors are not interested in the following courses and as a result most of the seats are still vacant.
- Anatomy PG course, all five seats are vacant.
- Forensic Medicine and Toxicology (FMT), all three seats are vacant.
- Physiology PG department, out of five seats only one seat is taken.
- Biochemistry PG course, one seat is still vacant out of four seats.
- Pharmacology PG department, four seats are taken out of seven.
These nonclinical PG courses were in demand but with the opening of new medical colleges in different States has proven to be unfavorable for these PG courses. And at present MBBS pass outs prefer to be active physicians and not go for PG courses.
The staff of the MKCG College is on point for these non-clinical courses the only thing missing is the students.
Teachers feel that the government has not provided proper incentives to attract students to these courses. In the past teachers of nonclinical courses were getting 25 per cent of their salary as added incentive, which has been stopped. They wanted the incentive to be back to attract students.
