The officials of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have clarified that allocating more gap days between the Class 12 board exams is practically not possible. The statement from officials came after students, parents and teachers urged CBSE to revise the date sheet of Class 12 Board Exams 2018. However, the board confirmed that it had considered numerous factors while framing the timetable for board exams. According to CBSE, the timetable is mostly student-friendly.

Justifying its views on Class 12 timetable CBSE pointed that there are 200 subjects out of which students have to opt for a combination. Students have subject combination such that science students choose from thecommerce and humanities subjects and vice-versa. Therefore, it is not possible to allocate more gap days between some papers, CBSE stated.

CBSE further indicated that the schedule prepared by the experts focuses on covering all the 200 subjects in the first week of April since competitive exams like JEEbegin after that. Under the existing system, students choose subjects from different streams and it was not possible to keep the exams apart. CBSE agree that there are no gap days between few exams, but at the same time, the board had so many considerations while framing the date sheet, stated an official.

On January 10, 2018, CBSE issued the date sheet for Class 12 and Class 10 Board Exams 2018. There has been a wide criticism on Class 12 timetable, as CBSE did not allocate much gap days between the major subjects.
