Statics of Oxford University shows that the number of female students taking admission in Oxford University has increased as compared to the male students. Total of 1,275 female students received offers from the university, whereas, the number of male candidates reduced to 1,165 in 2017. This change has been witnessed for the first time in more than 800 years history of Oxford University. These official figures were released on January 25, 2018.

Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS), a centralised universities admissions body of UK released data stating the number of female candidates who secured a place in the university as compared to the male candidates. 1,070 women and 1,025 male candidates successfully achieved qualifying grades of Oxford University. The course for the qualified students will start in September 2018.

Number of female applicants to get offers for undergraduate courses is also high as compared to male candidates. However, the female applicants were less than the male applicants this year. The new figures are considered to be a progressive sign for female applicants.

The change in this year’s undergraduate admission rate has been recorded to be the latest in past few years for Oxford University. The first admission of female students in a male-dominated college of Oxford University was in the year 1974 which was further followed by other colleges in the 1970s and 1980s.

Oldest university of the English-speaking world is the University of Oxford. The historical background has made the university unique in many ways. Lady Margaret Hall was the first college under Oxford University to welcome female students. It is the first women’s college established in 1878.

University of Cambridge tradition rivals of the University of Oxford admitted more female students for the upcoming academic year. 1,440 female and 1405 male applicants were reported to take admission for 2018 academic session. Cambridge University and Oxford University have witnessed downfall in the entry rates of least and most advantaged young aspirants.
