DU Admissions 2019: English Honours Most Preferred Course
English Honours is the most preferred course among the DU aspirants. The BA(Hons) English course saw the maximum number of applications at 1,42,979, followed by BA(Hons) Political Science at 1,30,240 and BA Programme at 1,25,519.
After counting the number of applications received by Delhi University for a different subject, it turns out that English (Hons) is this year's most preferred subject. Out of the total applications received till now, 1,42,979 were for BA English (Hons), followed by BA Political Science (Hons) and BA (programme).
Last year as well, the highest number of applications the varsity had received – 1.26 lakh – was for BA English (Hons). The number of applications received for the respective course is directly related to the cut-off. Therefore it is possible that the cut-off for B.A. English (Hons). will be higher this year. Last year, in the first list, the highest cut-off for BA English (Hons) was in Hindu College at 98%.
Seeing the response by students to English (Hons), teachers feel that the cut off for the same should be increased as they believe that the number of applications received is perhaps due to lower cut offs set for the admission. Du received close to 1,55,896 applications for the 54,000 seats in 61 DU colleges. Out of these,number of applications by general candidates are 1,05,284. The rest are from the reserved category.
The highest cut off set for English last year, was by Lady Shri Ram College for Women at 98.25% And the lowest percentage was by Bharati College at 90%.
Moreover, another change seen in the stats from last year is that Bachelor of Science can no longer be seen among the list of the top five most applied courses. Last year, BSc (Hons) in Chemistry and Mathematics was in the top five most applied courses.
Courses like BSc (Hons) in Botany, Zoology, Microbiology, Anthropology, Biological Science, Physics, Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Mathematical Science, Physical Science and Life Science are offered by DU in the science stream. With BCom and BA (Hons) as the most sought after courses, DU received 71,505 BCom applications Economics received 63,264 applications last year.
