M.Tech Students Ditch IITs Mid-Course for PSU Jobs
It has been reported that out of 8,000 students 2,000 students are quitting the course after getting the jobs at PSUs.
Most of the M.Tech students of IITs are quitting the courses after landing jobs in Private Sector Undertakings (PSUs). The officials of the various IITs took this issue into consideration and complained at the recently held IIT Council meet. The IITs are facing several difficulties in retaining these students.
The IIT Council meet presided by Prakash Javadekar assured that the ministry would write to the public enterprise in this regard. It has been reported that out of 8,000 students, 2,000 students are quitting the course after getting the jobs at PSUs. The council has decided to negotiate with all such PSUs to allow students join after the completion of the course.

One of the senior officials said that they would take up the matter with PSUs. He mentioned that IITs are the premier institutes in India which encourage students to take up higher education and research. If students leave the course midway, the seats go empty. The institutes are investing a lot of time, money and energy for the M.Tech courses. The IITs are providing 1,000 teaching assistantships; the institutes are bearing a fellowship amount of Rs. 25,000 per month to meritorious M.Tech students.

GAIL, ONGC and SAIL are the reputed PSUs which provide job opportunities to M.Tech students from IITs.
