Non-Agricultural Universities in Maharashtra Must Set Up Multi-Purpose Testing Labs: Education Minister
Uday Samant, the Higher and Technical Education Minister of Maharashtra asked the VCs of all 13 non-agricultural universities in Maharashtra to set up testing labs to detect COVID-19 patients which can further be utilised to perform other tests.
Higher and Technical Education Minister of Maharashtra, Uday Samant has asked the Vice-Chancellors of all 13 non-agricultural universities in Maharashtra to set up labs in the campus for testing which will be helpful to detect COVID-19 patients. The setup can further be utilised to perform other tests.
The Minister said that Marathwada University has already set up the facility and are waiting for the central government, state government and the health government to grant permission for testing.
The minister also asked universities to present reports to analyse whether the NSS students can be deployed for relief and prevention work against COVID- 19.
The Minister said that 27 students are trained by Solapur University after consent from their parents and they have been involved in various activities. He also appreciated the Mumbai University’s psychology department for conducting online counselling services for students.

Samant further said that although there has been a delay in college, university and Common entrance test CET amidst COVID 19, they are figuring out ways to conduct examinations and the new timetable of all exams will be announced soon.
While there has been a delay in conducting college, university and CET (Common entrance test) exams, the minister announced that the new timetable for all exams will be declared again.
According to officials, the board examination and Mumbai University examinations evaluations have been postponed till May 15 and the date may further be extended depending on the situation.
A six-member committee comprising Mumbai University VC Suhas Pednekar, Pune University VC Dr Nitin Karmalkar, SNDT University VC Shashikala Vanzari, Kolhapur University VC Devanand Shinde, Director of higher education Dhanraj Mane and Director of technical education Abhay Wagh to analyse the feasibility of conducting examinations so that there is a minimum academic loss for students.
