Mumbai Colleges offer Free Wi-Fi to Students
The students who do not have internet access at home come to college on holidays and complete the projects
Most of the colleges in Mumbai are offering free Wi-Fi facility to the students. This facility is provided to help the students who do not have internet access at home to complete the projects or assignments. However, these colleges have also taken measures to avoid misuse of the internet during class hours.
St. Xavier's College has been providing Wi-Fi facility for the students for the past three months. Some of the students of this college opined that the WiFi facility is beneficial to complete the projects and assignments in the college. The students who do not have internet access at home come to college on holidays and complete the projects. Apart from the projects, the Wifi is useful to gather information for the seminar and helps to prepare notes. The students can access free Wi-Fi after registering themselves in the server.
KPB Hinduja College has also launched free WiFi recently only in the certain parts of the college to avoid the use of the internet during the class hours. Mithibai College has been providing WiFi facility for the past three years. The Principal of this college opined that Intenet has become an important tool in education.
However, some of the colleges restricted the use of Wi-Fi in certain parts of the campus. For instance, St. Xavier’s College is providing Wi-Fi only on the ground floor of the campus. Similarly, KPB Hinduja College has set up Wi-Fi access in canteen, library, gymnasium, and corridors. To avoid misuse of the internet in the campus, certain websites have been banned by the college. The Wi-Fi also helps the students for inter-collegiate festivals and competitions.
