Mumbai University Colleges Ignore Enrollment Process of 3,000 Students

Several colleges affiliated to Mumbai University did not complete their eligibility and enrollment process for students admitted in between the period of 2012 to 2015. As a result, the fate of around 3,000 students remained uncertain.

Recently the university’s concerned department has issued a circular to all the erring colleges to complete the process before 15 December 2016. The circular said that the university had not received the documents of more than 3,000 students pursuing different courses in various colleges, which they should have submitted at the beginning of a course.

The highest number of such cases were recorded in the commerce stream. The circular also said that if the colleges failed to complete the process within the stipulated time, students may not be granted degrees once they complete their course.

The registrar of the University, M A Khan said that the colleges are bound to check the eligibility of the students once they are admitted. This involved cross-checking the documents the students had submitted. Several colleges had defaulted on this point risking the future of many students.

Problems students may face due to this are-

• Results of these students will be withheld until their enrollment process is completed by the colleges.
• Students would not get a permanent roll number for appearing in exams until the process is completed.
• Students who require migration certificate for higher studies may not be able to get it issued.

This is not happening for the first time. Several colleges delayed the process in the past too. The students were provided provisional roll numbers before their exams. The principals of the colleges would be responsible for the problems, the circular stated further.
