With excellent results of students in CBSE, ICSE and Maharashtra HSC exams, Mumbai University cut-offsare expected to increase. Reports have been coming in from across the country about CBSE and ICSE students scoring above 95% marks in class 12 exams. Not just central boards, 5,486 students from Maharashtra HSC scored more than 90% and 2,288 of these students are from Mumbai.

The number of Maharashtra HSC students with distinction have also increased in 2018. However, this is not going to help the students from the state board in Mumbai University Admissions 2018 as CBSE and ICSE students with over 95% marks have also increased and they will have an advantage over state board students, said Principal of Jai Hind College, Ashok Wadia.

According to experts in MU Admissions, Maharashtra HSC students will easily secure seats in courses like BMS and BMM but they will face a tough competition in banking, commerce and economics courses. Another reason behind this is that number of CBSE students studying in Mumbai University has increased 80% since 2013, whereas, ICSE students increased by 50%.

HR College also reported a rise in students from central boards and as a result, the cut-offs have increased. The number of 90 percenters also increased at the college and students who score less than 93% will face tough competition in order to secure admission in HR College, said Principal Parag Thakkar.

Thakkar added that even though the rise and fall in cut-offs are marginal each year, it affects the students applying for Mumbai University as even point differences in class 12 percentage matters during admissions. Hemlata Bagla, Principal of KC College, said that the representation of HSC students in MU is less as more students from the state focus on competitive entrance exams for admissions.
