The Mumbai University has granted permission to these 110 affiliated colleges to increase the intake by 10-15 percent.
A good news for the students of Mumbai who did not get admissions in any of the colleges or who missed the admissions by their percentage that the Mumbai University has increased the intake of 110 colleges. The Mumbai University has granted permission to these 110 affiliated colleges to increase the intake by 10-15 percent.
Every year most of the colleges apply for additional intake after the completion of admission process. Similarly, this year the colleges applied for additional intake. The colleges which have proper infrastructure and basic facilities have been provided with the additional intake. The colleges which are accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) have the right to request for additional seats.
The intake of Jai Hind College has been increased to 10 percent for all the regular courses. However for commerce courses, only 7.5 percent of seats have been increased and the demand for the commerce stream is high.
One of the university officials argued that the colleges fill additional seats based on their monetary benefits. He opined that there is no transparency in the admission process and the colleges demand donations from the applicants.
The principal of Jai Hind College, Mr. Wadia mentioned that the additional seats are filled on the basis of merit and no money or donation is collected to fill the admission. The additional intake is beneficial for those students who secured fewer marks than the cut-offs.
