Mumbai University is all set to make a final push towards digitalising the examination process with the introduction of paperless examination in the forthcoming exam session. In addition to making the examination process a digital one, the University is also planning to make the administrative process a completely digital one.

For the purpose of writing exams, the students will be provided with specially designed tablets and a stylus. Dr Suhas Pednekar, the Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University said that the paperless exams were already being conducted in many private universities which prompted them to explore the option. It will be implemented in a full-scale manner once the success and cost-effectiveness of this move are determined, said the VC.

The IT department of the University has also developed a software which will be used to conduct the academic audit, thus, making it the pioneer University in the state of Maharashtra to conduct an online academic audit. The same software has also been recommended by BS Koshyari, the Governor, to other state Universities for conducting academic audit online. Through this software, extracting information from the Colleges will become easier, said the Vice-Chancellor. The University receives data from the colleges which are sent to the Rashtriya Ucchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), Management Information System and All India Survey on Higher Education which can now easily be accessed through the software.

Pednekar also added that the information received from the colleges through the software will be made available on the public portals which will aid the parents and the students to choose their desired college during the college selection process. Also, the Kalina campus is soon to receive Digital Notice Boards.

The University is also looking at methods to reduce the time gap between exams and result declarations. The University is also trying to make the revaluation process of mark sheets a smooth one. Five video conferences have already been conducted by the University with the paper setters. This year, most of the results were declared within 45 days of the conduct of exams.
