Mumbai University (MU) To Launch New MA Course in European Culture
Mumbai University is all set to introduce a new course called Master Cle soon. The programme is a postgraduate (masters) course in European Cultures and enrolments are estimated to begin from the next academic year.
The University of Mumbai (MU) is all set to launch a new course of Masters in Literary European Cultures, which is called Master Cle. The students of MU will be able to apply for this course soon and those who enrol themselves will get the opportunity of completing two semesters in Europe. Mumbai University has been in news recently for introducing some new courses in the field of science and engineering as well as some unique programmes such as a certificate course in hip-hop.
With this new Masters course in Literary European Cultures, MU has become the only university in Asia that is now a part of an international consortium of eight universities of the world in which the course is offered. The Master Cle programme will be two years long and will offer an integrated degree of M.A. (Masters in Arts) and M.Phil (Masters in Philosophy).
Mumbai University will also offer Italian and French in the course, apart from the English Language. The university will start enrolling students for Master Cle as soon as the programme is vetted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and other bodies. It is estimated that the classes will commence from the next academic session.

The in-charge director of the centre, Vidya Vencastesan, said that the Master Cle course will be helpful for students who wish to become inter-cultural facilitators for organisations in the country and will create qualified Indian teachers of these languages.
The Centre for European Studies was inaugurated in July 2017 for coordinating the new international programme that is to be taught in eight universities together in the world. It was created for promoting European languages in India and vice versa. The other universities that are a part of this consortium include the University of Mulhouse, the University of Bologna, the University of Strasbourg, the University of Moscow, the University of Lisboa, the University of Dakkar, and the University of Thessaloniki.
To be eligible for getting admission in the Master Cle programme of MU, the student must be a graduate with a B1 level of Italian and C1 level of French. Vencatesan said that this is a multiple-degree programme in which a student can receive a degree from three universities at the most. This is a four-semester programme which is supported by the European Union and the main co-ordinator is Bologna.
