Mumbai University Likely to Retain ‘On Screen’ Assessment for Future Exams

After declaring the final year results of all the exams, the University of Mumbai is planning to go ahead with the ‘On Screen’ assessment process for the future exams. As a result of the delay in announcing the results due to a lag in implementing the evaluation system, lack of awareness among the evaluators and technical glitches, the University received a lot of flak. If everything had been materialised well earlier, the varsity would have been able to announce the results much earlier. The varsity is now keen on addressing the mistakes and the technical glitches by finding possible ways.

Currently, Board of Examinations (BoE) of Mumbai University is in a dilemma whether to go ahead with the new system. An official associated with the Mumbai University revealed that adopting ‘On Screen’ assessment system is a positive step towards promoting digitalisation and discontinuing it is not a great idea. Similar, the new system reduces the pressure among the evaluators and makes the work easy for them. He further added that all the problems in the new assessment system have been streamlined.
The BoE is expected to take the decision on the new system by the next week followed by an approval from the academic council and management council.

An official associated with BoE pointed that the decision would be based purely on learnings of the new team constituted by the Governor of the state. The team will study the new system and submit their experience to the BoE.
On the other hand, teachers are not willing to go ahead with the new system since they had a bad experience this year because of the introduction of the new technology. Therefore, they urged the state government to conduct a proper investigation to figure out the reasons for the failure of the new system.
