Mumbai University May Close its Dual Degree Course Option
Mumbai University is planning to close down its dual-degree programme due to the low response as there is not much awareness among students about this course. The Mumbai University dual degree provision enables students to pursue two courses at the same time.
Mumbai University dual degree programme which started in the year 2010 is in question at present. The university is planning to shut down the course from the 2018-19 academic year. The MU dual degree programme allowed the students to pursue two-degree courses at the same time.
They could pursue one from any regular college of Mumbai University and the second from the Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) of the university.
However, UGC released a notification to shut down the dual degree course in January 2016. The UGC notification stated that they have not received enough responses to support the idea of pursuing two degrees at the same time. It further stated that the all universities should conduct courses as per the First Degree and Master Degree Regulations, 2003.

Even after the official notification of UGC, Mumbai University continued running the dual degree courses for the 2017-18 academic session. The university is yet to take a final decision regarding the dual degree programme. The Institute of Distance and Open Learning that used to award the second degree to students are not inviting applications for the current academic year.
One of the main reason for shutting down the dual degree course is the low response received by the university as there is not much awareness among students about this course. The students were not informed about the course even after regular notice sent by IDOL to all Mumbai University affiliated colleges.
