Mumbai University Yet to Get NAAC Accreditation
- Mumbai University has been working to submit the self-assessment report to NAAC within six months.
- The varsity will not be able to avail the benefits of UGC schemes without NAAC grade.
The NAAC accreditation of the University of Mumbai expired in April 2017. The varsity was to apply for reaccreditation and was busy with results mess until October 2017. Now, the varsity has to wait for another six months to get NAAC accreditation. The varsity is yet to prepare and submit a comprehensive and detailed self-assessment report of the last five years. The preparation of self-assessment report will take a maximum of six months.
The varsity was to start preparing self-assessment report before six months of the expiration of NAAC accreditation. The varsity was unable to initiate the process due to results mess.

In-Charge Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University, Mr. Devanand Shinde revealed that varsity’s IQAC (Internal Quality Assessment Cell) has been working on preparing the report and is expected to submit the same by next cycle of NAAC assessment. The new IQAC has been formed a month ago. The newly-appointed members of IQAC had met only once in a meeting. Professor Radha Srinivasan from Physics Department of Mumbai University has been given the responsibility of leading newly-formed IQAC, he added.

NAAC grade is essential for the universities to receive funds from the central government. The varsity will not be able to avail the benefits of UGC schemes without NAAC grade.
Usually, NAAC accepts proposals from the institutes seeking accreditation in two years in a year. The proposals for the first phase will be accepted from May 01 to June 30, 2018. The proposals for the second phase have to be submitted from November 01 to December 31, 2018.
