<p>Mumbai University is to hold a meeting to discuss the October examination dates and see if the exams can be rescheduled. Colleges and departments of the University claim that due to late admissions this year, they did not have sufficient time to conduct ample academic days.
The principal of a suburban college said, “The university has been struggling to declare results on time and the results of the March, April and May exams were declared as late as August end. Lectures for the new academic year are yet to be held. In such a scenario, if the students have to appear for the exams within a month of the start of the academic year they will surely fail.”
While the problem is more prominent for post graduate students in the arts, science and commerce course, under-graduate students of the three year LLB course will be most hit if the exams are held in October. “It will be impossible for students to study in two or three weeks what they should be learning in three months. If exams are not rescheduled either there will be mass failure or marks will have to be doled out to students,” said the administrator from a law college.
Mr Deepak Wasave, in-charge, controller of examination, MU, admitted to the problem and said he had received numerous requests to reschedule the exams. “I will meet the vice-chancellor Dr Sanjay Deshmukh and discuss with him this situation on September 23. Only then we will be able to comment on whether the exams will be rescheduled or not,” said Mr Wasave.
