Mysore University to Set Up Centre for Visually Impaired

With an objective to enhance skill and employability of visually impaired students, the University of Mysore is going to set up a centre for the visually impaired. The varsity is planning to make the centre as a national institution. The centre for visually impaired at the University of Mysore will become a nodal centre in the country that benefits the visually impaired students. The main aim of this centre is to make the visually impaired students self-reliant by enhancing their skills.

One of the officials of the University of Mysore revealed that the varsity is always committed to work towards providing education and training to the students with special needs. The centre for visually impaired at the University of Mysore is the first of its kind in the country.

For setting up the centre for visually impaired, the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Board has submitted the proposal to the Higher Education Board of Karnataka state. The varsity is waiting for approval from the board.

One of the officials of the PME Board of the varsity explained that it is time to create opportunities in universities to set up computer centres for visually impaired students. He stressed that the there is a need to provide education and training in ICT besides soft skills.

Explaining about the varsity’s aim to enhance the employability of visually impaired students, he said that the varsity is framing a plan that facilitates the collection of learning sources like periodicals, talking studio, Braille books and Braille software.

Overall, the varsity will offer specially designed courses to develop knowledge and professional skills among the students in communications, information and assistive technology.
