Nagpur University Makes NAAC Accreditation Mandatory for Affiliation to Education Colleges
- Nagpur University has raised the bar for the education colleges while there is no change in the norms for non-educational institutes.
- NU will upload the final list of educational colleges granted affiliation on 30 April 2018.
The Nagpur University has made NAAC - National Accreditation and Assessment Council or QCI- Quality Control of India must for granting affiliation to institutes offering courses such as Bachelor of Physical Education, Bachelor of Education, Master of Education and Master of Physical Education from the upcoming academic session.
NU released the notification regarding the same after series of discussions. As per the new norms, NU has raised the bar for the education colleges whereas there is no change in the norms for non-education colleges. The non-educational colleges require a score of 70 whereas the education colleges require a score of 140 out of 200 in each category such as faculty, infrastructure etc.

According to the academic calendar, the deadline for the inspection was 15 January but several colleges failed to invited LECs, therefore, the deadline has been extended. Nagpur University has issued the letters to LEC members and has asked them to submit the report latest by 15 April so that they can upload the final list of institutes granted affiliation by 30 April 2018.

The new norms will probably see a backlash from education colleges as most of them are run in single rooms and do not have a proper infrastructure and faculty to conduct classes. As per the records, around 76 colleges in the are working without proper faculty and teaching staff.
