Pramod Yeole, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Nagpur University, mentioned that the varsity has introduced various reforms and there has been a heavy rush to clear old PhDs. The reason is that most of the students do not want to go through new norms which would make it difficult for them to acquire doctorate degrees. Unless the students worked hard, they would not be able to secure doctorate. However, the officials of the university were shocked to see that around 4,500 students are yet to clear their PhD.

The candidates whose registrations were pending got activated suddenly and the varsity made it mandatory for them to pursue degrees from recognised centres and recognised guides. As per changed norms, a professor can guide only eight students while an associate professor can guide only six students and the assistant professor can guide only four students.
