Nalandha University Signs MoU with Kanazawa University for Academic Collaboration
The Nalanda University (NU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the 50-year old Japan’s National University, Kanazawa University for academic collaboration.
The Nalanda University (NU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the 50-year old Japan’s National University, Kanazawa University for academic collaboration.
The MoU was signed by Mori Masahide, Head of the School of Humanities, Comparative Culture Studies, Indian Buddhist Studies, Kanazawa University and Pankaj Mohan, an interim vice chancellor on behalf of vice-chancellor and dean, Vijay Bhatkar Nalanda University in Rajgir on Thursday. This MoU will remain in effect for 5 years.

As stated by Smita Polite, the head of NU communication department, according to the MoU signed, the two collaborating universities will make concerted effort to encourage and develop cooperation through various activities like exchange of faculty members, students and research fellows, and also academic publications, materials, and information. Besides the activities taken up for the development of educational and academic exchange, the two institutions would also conduct joint research projects and organize symposiums.
Speaking on this occasion, Prof. Pankaj Mohan said that the countries like India and Japan that are ancient civilizations, bound by close cultural ties, adding that the city, Nalanda also played an important role in the civilizational dialogue. He also remarked that since Nalanda University has decided to rediscover the threads of inter-Asian connection, the MoU signed with Kanazawa University will hold great importance.
Mori Masahide in his brief speech revealed that the Kanazawa University has been designated as a “Super Global University” by the Japanese Ministry of Education. And inspired by the vision and goal of Nalanda University, he mentioned that the MoU would pave the way for an enduring partnership between the two varsities.

Kanazawa University is situated in the city of Kanazawa, the capital of Ishikawa in Japan. It has two main campuses located in Takaramachi and Kakuma. It offers various UG and PG courses and has 16 schools and 3 colleges with about eleven thousand students including three hundred fifty international students.
The Nalanda university was inaugurated by Sushma Swaraj, external affairs minister on 19 September 2014. The idea of reviving the university was first raised by the late President Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam while he was giving a speech to the Bihar legislative assembly in March 2006.
