In order to create a national online educational asset, the HRD Ministry has initiated the National Digital Library for students interested in innovation and research. The same was handed over to IIT-Kharagpur to initiate, conceptualise and execute, in 2014.
According to professor Das, professor at Computer Science Engineering Department and one of the core team members of NDL said, “Every university has its own digital archive of its intellectual output and syllabus, known as the Institutional Digital Repository (IDR), whose access is limited to the university’s own staff and students. The NDL is modelled on the IDR, but will consist of IDRs of several universities and any student will be free to access it. For instance, a student of IIT Madras will be able to access study material of a specialisation taught exclusively at IIT Kharagpur.”
The pilot project is now ready for trial. IIT Kharagpur is in process of making education more interactive and advanced. The National Digital Library is a big step towards improvement and advancement in education sector, said Prof. Das.
About IIT- Kharagpur:
The motto of IIT Kharagpur is "Yoga Karmashu Kaushalam" . The motto literally translates to "Excellence in action is Yoga" essentially implying that doing your work well is (true) yoga. It is sourced to Sri Krishna's discourse to Arjuna in Bhagavad Gita. This quote in its larger context of Gita urges man to acquire equanimity because such a soul endowed with the mind of equanimity allows him to shed the effects of his good and evil deeds in this world itself. Equanimity is the source of perfection in Karmic endeavors while leading to Salvation.
