NIPER to set up in Nagpur

National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) will be set up in Nagpur.

Ending all speculation that NIPER would be set up in western Maharashtra or Konkan, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday announced that NIPER will be shaped up in Nagpur.
Earlier, it was speculated that the NIPER would be transferred to western Maharashtra due to political lobbying.

However, CM's announcement has put to rest all speculations in this regard. The government had also asked the deputy director, directorate of technical education to appoint a committee for searching a suitable land for the institute.

A committee was formed in April 2015 under the chairmanship of VK Maurya. The committee had finalised a 46 acre land at Mohgaon on Amravati road. Deputy director of DTE Gulabrao Thakre was also the member of the committee. A ' Detailed Project Report' of the NIPER land was also submitted to the State government. However, after the initial procedures were completed, no concrete steps were taken by the government. The government's role on whether NIPER will be established in Nagpur was not clear.


NIPER is a national level institute and is top class pharmacy education institute. Union finance minister Arun Jaitely in his 2014 budget speech had announced setting up of NIPER in Maharashtra. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had expressed his desire to set up NIPER in Nagpur. On those lines all the procedures for NIPER were completed speedily.

Academic session for National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research to start in 2018
