National Law University to Come Up in Jammu & Kashmir Soon
- The state legislature of Jammu approved Bill for setting up National Law University (NLU) in the state.
- NLU in Jammu & Kashmir will be established on the lines of NLSIU Bangalore.
The government of Jammu & Kashmir will begin the process of setting up National Law University (NLU) on the lines of NLSIU Bangalore (National Law School of Indian University). Earlier this week, the state legislature had passed the Bill approving to set up NLU in the state. The state government is intended to improve the quality of legal education and setting up a national-level university is the first step in this regard.
State Law & Justice Minister, Mr. Abdul Haq Khan revealed that the proposal to establish NLU in the state was examined by Department of Justice, Law and Parliamentary Affairs.

In 1995, All India Law Ministers’ conference resolved the issues relating to setting up law universities in each state. States are free to enact a law and set up law universities on the lines of NLSIU Bangalore. At present, various states have NLUs while a few are yet to enact a law.

NLUs across the country do not grant direct admission to the law aspirants. A national-level entrance exam, i.e., AILET (All India Law Entrance Test) is conducted for the admission to B.A LLB, LLM and Ph.D. courses.
AILET 2018 will be conducted on May 6, 2018. The official AILET 2018 Notification has been released.
Candidates can fill the online AILET Application Form 2018 through the official website of NLU Delhi. Before you start preparing for the AILET, it is advisable to have complete awareness of AILET Syllabus and AILET Exam Pattern.
April 07, 2018 is the deadline to submit online applications for AILET 2018.
