Lucknow University will hold a National Training Programme(NTP) on the topic of ‘Conducting Research in Biodiversity and Wildlife’ at the Zoology department, under the support of the department of Science and Technology from May 25-30.
According to Associate Professor, LU, Amita Kannaujia, "the training programme primarily for research scholars would be addressed by prominent butterfly expert from the Butterfly Park, Bhimtaal, Peter Smetacek, along with other experts." She said that the field-based training programme was designed to train young researchers with recent techniques and its hands-on experience to carry out effective research on biodiversity, wildlife and conservation biology.
The training course will include topics like ‘Recent Developments in Biodiversity’ and ‘Wildlife Research and Effective Methodology’ to study wildlife and habitats with special reference to GIS mapping. Students talk about biodiversity but they do not have any idea of how to carry out the research or conduct a census,” she added.
Dr Peter Smetacek, Dr Gururaja KV, Dr Faiyyaz Khudsar, Dr Nishith Dharaiya, Dr Vivek Sharma, Dr Anil Chhangani, Dr Ekwal Imam, Dr Orus Ilyas, Prof N Agarwal, Prof M Sirajuddin and Prof Amita Kannaujia, will be addressing students. The topics will include ‘Wildlife Habitats and Restoration Butterfly’, ‘Fish diodiversity’ and Mammals'. There will be a special session on vultures, GIS , scientific deliveries, molecular taxonomy and wildlife population.
Zoology department would also celebrate the Biodiversity Week from May 16- 20 at the Regional Science City along with CEE and the Biodiversity Board in which there would be several programmes for children.
