National Workshop on Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Hosted by Panjab University

Panjab University begins the six days long national level workshop in its Seminar Hall, Department of CIL/SAIF/UCIM on Monday, August 23. The workshop will be covering the topic ‘Applications of NMR and LCMS for Structural Elucidation of Small Molecules (NMR-LCMS 2016).’

The detailed workshop will help students and other aspirants in understanding in detail the theoretical aspects and practical knowledge in experiment design, data processing, instrument operation and spectral analysis. Lectures and training will be provided by field experts as part of the curriculum. The aim of organizing this workshop is to impart enough information on all such advanced instruments to enhance and motivate the research students and faculties.

The welcome address was given by Prof. SK Mehta, Chairman of Workshop and Director of CIL/SAIF/UCIM. He talked about the activities that were organized at SAIF/CIL recently and the reason behind them. He also added that this event is to provide a platform to all the scientists that will help them thrive and exchange their knowledge and skills in the field of sophisticated instrumentations.

The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Arun Kumar Grover, Vice-Chancellor of PU. He talked about the developments that have been so far in the field of NMR. Prof. OP Katare, Director, Research promotion cell of the university interacted with the attendees regarding the prominence of sophisticated instruments.

The keynote address was given by Prof. KK Bhutani, Director NIPER, who shed light on the importance of NMR and MS techniques and its prominence in the structural explanation of natural products.

45 participants have registered for the workshop and a majority of them are researchers and scientists belonging to various CRIKC institutes. Prof. Vijay Khanna from the University of Pune, Prof N Suryaprakash, FNASc from IISc Bangalore and Prof M Vairamani from SRM University have shared their expertise while an expert from Tamil Nadu will talk sometime between 22-27 August. The workshop will come to an end on August 27.
