NEET 2017 Counselling: SC Extends Deadline for Final Round Until September 7
- In a recent announcement made by the honourable Supreme Court of India, it has directed deemed universities to extend the final round of medical seat counselling to September 7, 2017.
- Around 5,500 MBBS and BDS seats are still vacant.
Considering a large number of seats that are vacant in deemed universities, Supreme Court of India has extended the deadline for UG medical admissions until September 7, 2017, after which no further extension will be granted. According to sources, a total number of 5,500 seats are vacant in MBBS and BDS courses for the academic session 2017-18 on the basis of NEET-UG 2017.
The mop-up round counselling process is the last chance for medical aspirants to secure a seat which was earlier supposed to conclude on August 31, 2017.

A bench comprising of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices Y Chandrachud and A M Khanwilakr ordered the Director General of Health Sciences to send an official notice to all the deemed universities via e-mail regarding the extension of date for the mop-up round counselling process. Only deemed universities are entitled to the extension of mop-up counselling deadline up to September 7, 2017.
According to the Supreme Court, Director General of Health Sciences should fill up 5,500 seats from a pool of 55,000 students for maintaining a ratio of 1:10.

Last year, the Supreme Court of India made National Eligibility Test cum Entrance Test (NEET) mandatory for the admission to UG and PG medical and dental courses. After facing opposition from various states, the idea of a single medical entrance exam was implemented this year.
