NEET 2017: Tamil Nadu Govt. Reserves 85% Medical Seats for State Board Candidates
- The state government will reserve only 15% seats to the candidates belonging to ICSE, CBSE and other regional boards.
- Education Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. K.A. Sengottaiayan indicated that the govt. will continue to pressurise the centre regarding exemption of NEET.
Health Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Vijaya Bhaskar announced that the state government has decided to reserve 85% medical seats for the aspirants who have completed +2 under state education board. The state government will provide only 15% seats for the candidates belonging to ICSE, CBSE and other regional boards. This year, around 4.2 lakh medical aspirants from Tamil Nadu completed their Class 12 under state board, and there were only 4,685 students who completed Class 12 under CBSE board. The Undergraduate (UG) medical admissions will be done based on the NEET-UG 2017 rank and merit.
Earlier, the state government of Tamil Nadu passed two bills in the state assembly exempting it from NEET. However, the bills are under review, and President of India is yet to approve it. If the centre approves the legislations passed by the state government, UG medical admissions will be based on Class 12 marks.

The Education Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. K.A. Sengottaiayan indicated that the state government will continue to pressurise the centre regarding exemption from NEET. The government will make all efforts in this regard, and continue to fight for the sake of lakhs of medical aspirants.
The results of NEET-UG 2017 examination were out on June 23, 2017. This year, around 6 lakh candidates have qualified in the entrance test.

The Education Minister further added that the state government would soon release a book containing 54,000 questions that were asked in various national level examinations conducted by the centre. He further assured that the state government would make all the possible efforts for the upliftment of students belonging to economically weaker sections.
