NEET-like Single Entrance Test Likley to be Introduced in 2019

The matter has been repeatedly discussed by the HRD Ministry and sources say that there are chances that the Joint Entrance Examination will be made the single national level entrance test for admission to all the engineering colleges across India. AICTE Chairman Anil Sahasrabuddhe informed that it is a great idea to consider a Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to engineering courses. However, this is only possible if a common curriculum is followed by all the states.

The Ministry is planning to implement this single national level engineering entrance exam from 2019. A Ministry official informed that the department is working on the finer details to make the initiative successful.
A single entrance exam will be in the interest of engineering aspirants as they have to appear for multiple entrance exams for different colleges.
The ministry expects that various private engineering colleges across the country will object the move. However, the decision will be favourable for students as it will save them the expenditure of applying for multiple colleges. The process will also eliminate irregularities and bring transparency in the admission process.
Admission to various engineering colleges will be done on the basis of the score obtained in this entrance exams. The exam will be made compulsory for admission to various engineering courses across all engineering colleges in India.

Currently, most of the engineering colleges conduct admissions either on the basis of JEE or their own entrance examinations. Admission to some of the state level colleges is also done on the basis of state level entrance exams.
