Students find the process for admissions to medical and dental courses very disconcerting. Admissions to various private and deemed medical institutes in the country began on August 21 and the window was supposed to be closed today on August 24.

Students claimed that they were confused whether centralized admissions meant that a combined merit list for both categories will be released or not, saying that without a combined merit list they will have very little time to opt for institutes in this admission round.

Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) asked the students to fill separate forms to avoid confusion later and to wait for further instructions.

State member of PAMS, Rajesh Jain said that separate preference lists and merit lists were considered for admissions by various deemed and private medical institutes the student will have to be quick while choosing as the process is rather long and confirming a seat is the primary motive of the students. He also said that students prefer getting a seat in either of the deemed institutes in the first go rather than applying for refunds if they get a private institute in the first round.

There is still confusion regarding the number of seats that fall under the institutional quota which will not be allotted as peer the NEET scores.

Various state deemed institutes have started the admission process rather than waiting for the state government’s approval. Vice-Chancellor of Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences, Ahmednagar, Dr. Shashank Dalvi said that they are following the Supreme Court ruling according to which medical and dental admissions must be done on the basis of NEET. The college has received 1,600 applications for the 200 seats it offers.
